In 1911, Scottish scientist John Scott Haldane figured out how to stop coral miners from dying of exposure to poisonous gases like CO2 and carbon monoxide. He suggested that miners bring along a canary into the mines with them.
To fly, canaries need huge amounts of oxygen, and they do this by being able to get it when they both inhale and exhale (through a special extra air sac). When poisonous gases broke out in the mines, the canaries would get sick long before the humans felt anything, and that was their evacuation warning.
This bird became the miners' lifesaver throughout England, Canada and the United States until the late 80s when digital gas detectors were finally invented. Keeping workers safe is a top priority in any workplace and the guidelines of ISO 45001 are designed to do just that.

Noise Risk Assessment
A noise risk assessment is performed to study workers' exposure to noise risks. It helps to identify noise sources and the effect on workers. Findings from the assessment assist in determining corrective actions and preventive measures to preserve workers' hearing.
Audiometry Testing
Exposure to noise in excessive limits can lead to hearing loss. Audiometry is carried out to establish the hearing ability of a worker and determining his/her fitness for work. It is also to monitor hearing loss during employment, to identify individuals who are susceptible to noise, as well as to regulate hearing conservation programmes.
Chemical Exposure Monitoring
To evaluate the degree of chemical exposure in employees, testing for respirable dust, heavy metals, volatile organic compounds and many more are done. The hygiene monitoring programme is to quantify employees' exposure to hazardous substances at work. The monitoring results can be compared with official occupational exposure limits applicable nationally (USECHH Regulation or internationally (OSHA Act).
CHRA (Chemical Risk Assessment) | HIRAC (Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, Risk Control) | Chemical Classification
The USECHH regulation stipulates that CHRA covers identify the hazard by each chemical hazardous to health (CHTH), to evaluate the degree of exposure of workers, the adequacy of existing control measures and recommend further appropriate control measure. HIRARC assessing all hazards and their associated risk as well as provide a method to control the risk.
The chemical supplier shall classify chemicals as hazardous chemicals under the CLASS regulation. (Classification, Labelling and Safety data sheet of hazardous chemicals). The industry code of Practice (ICOP) as a guidance to chemical suppliers to comply with the above regulation. The ICOP contains a list of chemical substances that have been classified which is listed in PART 1, the classification of chemical shall be in accordance with physical, health and environmental hazard of the chemical as specified in Part 2 of ICOP. We will assist customer to record the classification of chemical as such form & manner specified in part 2 of the ICOP.

LEV (Local Exhaust Ventilation) Assessment
Local exhaust ventilation (LEV) systems offer protection from harmful dusts, vapours and fumes from work processes, by transporting these contaminants away from the worker's breathing zone. The testing and examination is to determine the effectiveness and efficiency of the system and detect the malfunction of the system.
Occupational Health Biological Monitoring
Biological monitoring is a way of assessing chemical exposure by measuring the chemical or its breakdown products in a biological sample. It can contribute to the aim of preventing unacceptable health risk by providing info on the control of occupational exposure.
